Computers And Technology. Using Office - Microsoft office is the best thing that ever happened to me. Spell checker - logical spreadsheets - Visio diagrams. I'm an engineer and the tools in this software suite have made me tremendously successful! (Jim, Kansas City).
Typing the wrong word - Thinking of the right word but typing the wrong word often occurs for me. I say, "How are you?" But type, "Who are you?" The most common mistake I make is switching "How" with "Who," even though I am speaking with someone I know. Reading the sentence at least once more will eliminate the awkwardness. Spell checkers can't find that error, but you can!. (D.C., Los Angeles, CA). Going digital - I just recently found out that I'm severly dyslexic and the ONLY way I want to work is on the computer. I find it is a completely different world. I think that dyslexics are more suited to the digital world, so digital all the way! (Brendan, Scotland, UK). I have a clever computer program - from www.TextHelp.com - which read out loud what I have written. It helps me to spot words I have missed out. (K.C., London, U.K.) When using a word processor for writing, if I find I cannot spell a word, I type in a smaller one with the same meaning and use the thesaurus to find the word I need. (P.P., Wellington, N.Z.)
Using an online dictionary - My wife is dyslexic and has told me many times that she does not know where she would be without the aid of technology. A method that you use. Please send us an email with details of your own technique. Please put 'Dyslexia Adults Link - Hints and Tips' in the title of your email.
