Speaker succeeded despite his dyslexia.

John Curley, motivational speaker and Emmy-award- winning host of Evening Magazine, will share his story about how the "dumbest kid in school got the coolest job in the world" at a free lecture from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Sydney Laurence Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
Curley's story about struggling to learn despite dyslexia is a "hilarious true-life journey from failing fourth grade to getting into a fight with actor Tom Hanks to succeeding at the job everyone wants" according to a press release.
Curley also will speak at a free luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. today at the Anchorage Downtown Marriott, 820 W. Seventh Ave. Call 382-5366 to R.S.V.P.
Students who are challenged by dyslexia and other learning differences, and their parents, are especially invited to hear Curley's story, which Oprah called "amazing."
His visit is hosted by Gateway School and Learning Center.
