guide for all those struggling with dyslexia in the workplace. Dyslexic people
face many problems in the workplace: difficulties with reading and writing, memory,

estimates that three million people are affected.

leading expert in the field; her techniques will help readers to master complex

'Dyslexia in Adults: Taking Charge of Your Life' by Kathleen Nosek, published by Taylor Trade Publishing (ISBN
number 08783 39485 ) - 'As a dyslexic who has been mocked and humiliated quite often (and to this day), I found it reassuring to see that there are people in the medical field who are not afraid to challenge the old-school paradigms. I hope that every dyslexic buys this book and others on the market as a way to help themselves, and also as a way to encourage research in this important area.' (L.B.)
'I can highly recommend: "Dyslexia in adults, taking charge of your life" by Kathleen Nosek.' (A.K.)

'Every Letter Counts' by Susan Hampshire, published by Bantam Press (ISBN
number 0593018869) In this excellent
book Susan Hampshire has interviewed a wide range of people - some famous,
some familiar, some unknown, but all from varying backgrounds - who have one thing
in common - dyslexia. They talk frankly of their early difficulties, of their
relationships with teachers and other children at school, and of the attitudes
of parents and employers. By sharing with the reader their eventual triumphs,
they give hope to dyslexic people everywhere, encouraging them to believe in their
own potential and their ability to achieve regardless of the difficulties. Clearly
printed in large-size text. Strongly recommended. (John Bradford).
Take
It From Me - Life's a Struggle but You Can Win! - Brockovich says that people
often ask how she, a single mother without a bachelor's degree or a paralegal
certificate, managed to bring down the colossal PG&E for knowingly poisoning the
water supply of Hinkley, Calif.
She
offers this book as her answer. In simple, informal prose, with a sparkling sense
of humor, Brockovich describes her childhood and her wild adolescence. As important
as her family, who taught her values, ethics and perseverance, was one high school
teacher who recognized her dyslexia and showed her that she was smart and able
to succeed, permanently changing her self-image and enabling her to graduate and
enroll in fashion college.
I
Beat Dyslexia - by Robert Jones.
The
Other Side of Dyslexia - by Ann Ferris - 'describes the process I went through
learning to manage my dyslexia, along with a methodology for dyslexics on how
to implement a program to change their quality of life'.
Dyslexia From a Cultural Perspective - Large-print account of some famous dyslexic people, description of dyslexia, and interviews with eight adults who are dyslexic, including Benjamin Zephaniah.

Aurally
Coded Spelling Dictionary - the ACE spelling dictionary is the Aurally Coded
dictionary – it confronts the multitude of vowel sounds by classifying words
according to the first one in each. She has been under very intense pressure and
extremely frustrated by her efforts to use a normal dictionary. "Using the
ACE Dictionary, my 16-years old student identifies the start sound of a difficult
work, then the second sound. The dictionary gives a visual support to the second
sound and a page reference for the combination from a grid. She then counts the
syllables, selects the list on the page, runs her finger down and is becoming
increasingly proficient at identifying the word. Her motivation has increased
because the exam board is now allowing her to use the ACE Dictionary in some exams.

Windows XP for Visual
Learners - Visibooks have produced this large-print guide to starting Windows
XP with many large screen shots. H elpful for beginners to the computer, and very
clear on how to perform tasks such as starting and closing a program, using desktop
icons, moving windows around the desktop, using email, etc. Disappointing
in its lack of colored, clear highlights, and being printed on glaring white paper
instead of off-white.

dyslexia becomes not just manageable but 'a source of individual strength and
